Cities of all sizes have unhoused community members. The City is responsible for providing municipal services to residential and business customers. Walla Walla County, however, is the government organization responsible for providing social services to Walla Walla and other cities.

In early 2017, the City of Walla Walla had no comprehensive plan to address the issue in a meaningful way. While formalizing a solution to work with partner organizations, the City set up a temporary area where people could live in tents provided by a nonprofit foundation.

I worked with City Council Members, the City Manager, the City Attorney, and other stakeholders to craft this press release to explain the challenge.
