Sidewalk repair campaign

The municipal government of Walla Walla proposed adding a second one-quarter of one percent tax on new home sales to fund investments in sidewalk infrastructure. I developed the strategy and tactics to educate the community members about the current state of sidewalks, illustrate the need for investment, develop community allies, and facilitate state legislature testimony from citizens.

I created an informational page on the government’s website. The easy-to-recall buidwallawalla.com URL forwarded to the page, which featured short surveys, a calculator to show how much a home seller would pay, an FAQ, and videos. I also made a series of educational and persuasive videos that targeted community members on Facebook and YouTube and drove viewers back to the information page for further engagement. Meanwhile, educational material was shared via the the city’s email and utility bill newsletters, which reach about 14,000 and 11,000 people, respectively.

The videos had a total of 76,419 views and 807 engagements (clicks, likes, shares, or comments). The information page was the 10th most frequently visited, just behind the job postings.
